Art Class at BayView

It is amazing how many ways there are to build community here in the Lakes Region. The Moultonborough Women’s Club is a wonderful community unto itself, populated by women excited to enjoy each other’s company, learn new things and positively impact their local environment. This month, over 90 members gathered to learn about another powerful community-builder, The Powerhouse Theatre Collaborative, which is the resident, professionally managed theatre company of the Colonial Theatre in Laconia.Producers Johanna and Bryan Halperin and Associate Producer Courtney Palmer relayed the mission of <a data-mce-href="https://www.powerhousenh.org/" href="https://www.powerhousenh.org/" title="powerhouse" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Powerhouse</a> which is to build community by providing opportunities to participate in live theatre onstage, behind-the-scenes and in the audience. They do this with large scale productions at the Colonial and smaller productions done in collaboration with organizations around the Lakes Region.In addition to that entertaining program, attendees received a report from the Donations chair, Susan Reepmeyer, who, along with her dedicated committee, diligently vetted local charities and received approval to award a total of $5,000 to 13 deserving organizations. Members are also gearing up to participate in the town-wide Yard Sale on Saturday, May 16 from 8:00am -12pm which is being facilitated by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/600343553167232/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-mce-href="https://www.facebook.com/events/600343553167232/">Lake Life Realty (Yard Sale)</a>. The MWC will have a dedicated location in front of member Karen Ciardi’s event space at 276 Moultonborough Neck Road.The annual Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, May 30 from 8:00am to 3:00pm at the <a data-mce-href="https://www.emheathinc.com/stores/em-heath-supermarket" href="https://www.emheathinc.com/stores/em-heath-supermarket" title="heaths" target="_blank" rel="noopener">E.M.Heath Supermarket</a> parking lot. Members also learned of local volunteer opportunities like beautifying and maintaining the MWC’s Adopt-A-Spot at the Town Hall, helping at the Bearcamp Center for Sustainable Community in Tamworth and, of course, preparing for the Bake Sale in conjunction with the Library Book Sale on July 10 and 11. Congratulations to Jayne & John!

At the April 6 Moultonborough Women's Club meeting, sex trafficking survivor Jasmine Grace narrated her journey as a vulnerable teen through six years of physical, mental and emotional bondage, originally initiated in her own town. She shares her story of victimization, eventual recovery, and forgiveness not only to raise trafficking awareness but also to offer support to others, including a path to safe housing &nbsp;and Bags of Hope filled with basic personal items for those without a permanent home.&nbsp; Jasmine's self-published book, <a data-mce-href="https://www.jasminegrace.org/jasmine-grace-book" href="https://www.jasminegrace.org/jasmine-grace-book" title="The Diary of Jasmine Grace" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Diary of Jasmine Grace.</a>Thanks to MWC members who donated toiletries for future Bags of Hope.
