June 2024
June Luncheon ~ The Barn at Pemi
MWC member Margaret Cooper and all her helpers did an outstanding job organizing our year end June Luncheon held at The Barn at Pemi. The setting was a charming, rustic barn in Plymouth, NH. MWC member Wendy Monbouquette (who was traveling in Europe at the time) made gorgeous quilted centerpiece squares which adorned each table along with a vase of fresh cut flowers. Close to 100 members enjoyed a luncheon of salad, rolls, roasted chicken, eggplant, roasted vegetables and vanilla mousse with fresh berries for dessert. After the meal, the silent auction ended, raising $940! Great show of support, ladies. The club held a candle ceremony with the installation of the officers for the 2024-2025 year.
That was followed by the announcement that Deb Kumpf was overwhelmingly nominated by her peers as the Outstanding Woman of the Year. Nancy Hill, Janice Bogasky and Amy Corston were recognized for their service to the club.
Thank you ladies for showing up and making the day special. Have a wonderful summer and we’ll meet up again in September.
May 2024
Speaker: Lt Mark Cavic, Moultonborough, NH Police Department
The weather is turning and the snowbirds have returned. We had a record turn-out for the monthly meeting with 95 women in attendance. Welcome back, ladies!
After lunching on manicotti and broccoli, the ladies grabbed dessert and settled in to hear the speaker. Lieutenant Mark Cavic of the Moultonborough Police Department. He came to the meeting to present common “Frauds and Swindles” that he sees in 2024. From identity theft and mail fraud to telephone scams, Lt Cavic shared many examples of threats out there and how to protect yourself against them. Advice given: shred mail/financial documents before discarding as there’s dumpster-divers out there, don’t give out personal information over the phone, and whatever you do don’t click on email links sent from people you don’t know!
After the presentation, Karen Ciardi discussed the planning to date for the upcoming June Jamboree. Be sure to sign-up to help make this happen!
April 2024
Speaker: George DeWolf, Founding Member of NH Butterfly Monitoring Network
Everything you wanted to know about butterflies but were afraid to ask. George DeWolf, founding member of the NH Butterfly Monitoring Network, presented an illuminating presentation on butterfly identification, habitats and protection. You left with a greater appreciation for the beautiful species.
Sheila McCleery went over the many upcoming club activities this month. The Ways & Means Committee ran another great raffle. Janice Bogasky gave an update on the June Jamboree currently having 26 Sponsors (bringing in over $11,000) and 9 food and drink sponsors. We also have over 20 auction items and several in-kind donations valued at over $10,000! Coupled with ticket sales, this is sure to be a highly successful (and FUN) event.
And we still have over 2 months to go to receive more sponsors and auction items. Lorraine Taylor will be starting to go out to businesses seeking additional auction items. If you can give her a hand, please reach out to her.
March 2024
Speaker: Kathy Garry, Moultonborough Historical Society
We were pleased to have 63 members and 2 guests attend the March meeting to listen to Kathy Garry present the history of Moultonborough. Her slideshow presented many artifacts that are currently stored at the Moultonborough Historical Society’s building. She has inspired us to plan a club outing to see the collections stored at the museum buildings.
At the MWC March meeting, the activities table was busy with many members signing up for events coming up this month. Be sure to look at the events calendar and plan to join in on the fun activities. Lots of opportunity to get out of the house and spend time playing games, hiking, eating and drinking (coffee) with other women.
No meeting would be as festive without the monthly hostesses. They really outdid themselves with amping up the green decor, “gold” coins and shamrocks for upcoming St. Patrick’s Day. And the desserts, well there seemed to be more than ever and they somehow all disappeared by the end of the meeting!
Thank you to Kathy Garry for the informative slide show, thanks to the hostesses for the decor and desserts and a big thank you to all the members and guests who attended the meeting. Have a wonderful month!
February 2024
Speaker: Jeremy Noyes, professional fine art landscape photographer
Many of the MWC ladies and guests showed up for the “Valentines Day” February luncheon wearing red. The menu included ravioli with spinach marinara with desserts provided by the some of the best bakers in town…the MWC members. Everyone was excited to listen to and “see” the presentation by professional landscape photographer Jeremy Noyes and he did not disappoint.
Jeremy Noyes Fine Art Photography is well-known around the lakes region for his stunningly vibrant landscape art photos. Everyone was enthralled with stories of his dedication to capturing “the moment”. His camera is hardly ever more than an arms-length away. He arises early to capture the hues of sunrises; loving dramatic skies, water reflections and the dispersed spectrum of light as sunset lingers amongst the clouds. If you’d like to experience more of his art, you can visit his gallery in Meredith, NH. Many of the women left his presentation vying to take more sunrise and sunset photos!
January 2024
Speaker: Karin Doheny, instructor at The Studio at Scissorgy Day Spa
A last minute change in plans meant that the Moultonborough Women's Club was able to secure yoga instructor and MWC member Karin Doheny for the January speaker on the topic of “Strength and Flexibility“. She spoke on the importance of maintaining a balanced physical and emotional well-being state.
Karin began her yoga journey 20 years ago and is currently an instructor at The Studio Scissorgy Day Spa in Moultonborough, NH. Karin is certified through the Abhyasa Yoga Institute and received her aerial yoga certification through the unnata method. In addition to her studio work and yoga travel, she teaches yoga at a Laconia after-school program for elementary students.
Karin shared with MWC members how she loves the beautiful all-encompassing practice of challenging one's mind, body and spirit. After taking everyone through a breathing exercise, members left feeling a little more grounded and at peace. Namaste.
At each meeting, the MWC Ways and Means Committee has a table of raffle items that have included quilts, wreaths and seasonally appropriate decor items. Often, the extremely talented Ways and Means Committee Chair, Sharon Paton, has personally created highly desirable, one-of-a-kind items for the raffle. Check out the table at the next meeting and try your luck at winning one of these prized items!
December 2023
Entertainment: Moultonborough Academy Chorus
The snow set the scene for a white Christmas MWC December meeting. The hostesses did a fantastic job festively decorating the function hall and bringing in sweet treats. Members brought in a van load of toys and gifts for Waypoint Foster Care Program and over 75 gifts for the Moultonborough Santa Fund families and children. Over 100 handmade ornaments by MWC members were brought to Mountain View Community Nursing Home. The Ways and Means Committee had wonderful year end raffles. Also, recently colorfully knitted hats and gloves were brought in for the Meredith Village Savings Bank’s Mitten Tree. Overall, the meeting was filled with cheer and good tidings as Moultonborough Academy choral students sang out holiday carols and members feasted on a ham luncheon with all the fixings. See you in the new year!

Speaker: Donald Dutton, Executive Director of David's House
The MWC November meeting’s speaker, Donald Dutton of David's House, Inc., gave an inspirational presentation of the power of a little boy’s dream that, in an act of loving legacy, became a reality. Stop by their website https://davids-house.org/ to read the story and make a contribution, if able. At the MWC November meeting there were 68 members in attendance and 11 guests. Two lucky guests went home with beautiful custom quilts generously donated by David’s House.

In addition to funding cancer research into diagnosis techniques, treatments and preventions, the ACS provides a Help Line for anyone affected by cancer, including patients, family and friends.
